May is upon us... already!! We will be hosting a Virtual Book Fair, online, from May 12th to 20th!! There are many exciting books to have a look at, as well as book trailers to view at the following link. The link will not be active for purchases until the fair begins on the 12th. Here's the link to our fair: virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5159782 FYI, any orders of $40 or more automatically have FREE SHIPPING, but in addition, ANY orders placed on either Wednesday evening during the fair from 6:00 - 8:00pm (that's the 12th and the 19th) are considered Family Nights, and all shipping charges will be waived, no matter the value of the order! All orders will be shipped to your home address, and every purchase benefits our school library. The Red Cedar program is coming to its exciting conclusion! Voting for the avid readers who've read at least 5 of the nominated selections in either the Fiction or Information categories takes place next week from Tuesday to Friday. The winners will be announced soon after and we will celebrate!

Hello Discovery students and families! I hope you enjoyed your Easter weekend and have returned to school ready to begin our final term with enthusiasm.
Next week we will be having a special visitor using our Library Learning Commons to present Metis cultural lessons to all of our divisions. Because of this, we will not be having library blocks next week, and therefore no book exchanges. That means that the library books you have signed out will be yours for an extra week, to be returned during your regular library time in the week of April 20th to 23rd. Red Cedar readers are getting close to the finish line! Voting this year will take place in our library between May 11th and 14th. If you are a Home Learner who has read the required 5 books in one category, you may send me your vote by email on the Contact page of this website. Keep reading!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and is ready for our final term at Discovery. Amazingly, we have another holiday coming up this weekend, with Good Friday and Easter Monday adding up to a 4-day weekend!! What that means for our Library is that all students who normally have library on Friday will be coming on Thursday for a book exchange only. Happy Easter weekend to all! Gung hay fat choy everyone!! Happy Lunar New Year, happy Valentine's Day on Sunday, happy Family Day on Monday, and I hope you all enjoyed your Pro-D Day. I learned a lot, and one of my workshops inspired me to get back to updating this Discovery Library website! This is the first opportunity I've had to change the link on this website to our new Library Management system, Follett Destiny!! As I become more knowledgeable about the program myself, I will be sharing many of the wonderful features it enables us to use. For now, you are able to search our library collection from home or at school, and when you click on many of the items, you will find descriptions of the books in varying detail! Students and teachers have been making great use of our Library Learning Commons this year so far, with over 2200 books being circulated in January alone! No wonder I haven't had time to update the website! |
